John Cangany leads North American operations for Trilligent and is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He helps clients communicate their purpose and impact on the world with their innovative, disruptive and groundbreaking ideas.

Prior to joining Trilligent, John led ESG Marketing, Communications and Programming for Ansys, the world leader in engineering simulation software. In his role, he helped the company advance its global ESG strategy, delivered its ESG report and helped the company advance its ESG communications with investors, NGOs and its customers.

Prior to joining Ansys, he led global corporate responsibility communications for Ford Motor Company. He communicated Ford’s corporate responsibility efforts, focusing on sustainability, climate change, human rights issues, electric vehicles and green infrastructure. He worked with all external audiences, including media, NGO partners and consumers to communicate Ford’s progress and leadership in corporate responsibility and sustainability.

Prior to working at Ford Motor Company, he led APCO Worldwide’s Studio/Online practice group and served as communications counsel for a diverse portfolio of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, NGOs and global private companies.

I grew up playing basketball and remain a life-long Indiana Pacers fan.

Any celebrity sightings?

Following the recommendation from travel writer Rick Steves to visit his favorite village in the Swiss Alps, Gimmelwald, my wife and I stayed in his favorite place, and even ran into him on our hike by chance.

What was the last book you read?

Grant by Ron Chernow. I am hooked on reading presidential biographies these days.

When did you realize this was the career for you?

Helping clients think through big ideas, issues or opportunities has always been interesting to me, regardless of the industry or issue area.
